Monitoring certificates: the paperwork that earns your insurance discount

A professionally monitored system comes with a certificate your insurance company recognizes, typically worth a 5 to 15 percent discount on your homeowners premium. Ask us for it. It takes minutes and pays every year.

What the certificate is

An alarm certificate is the document that proves to your insurer that the home is professionally monitored. Send it to your agent and ask for the alarm discount; our customers typically see between 5 and 15 percent, with the exact number set by the insurer. Monitoring is the part of the system that earns it; a self-monitored kit does not.

Month-to-month or agreement, honestly

We offer both. The three-year agreement is standard, and about one customer in five asks for month-to-month, which we happily do, especially for renters. Worth knowing: the average customer stays with their monitoring company around eight years, so the agreement question matters less than people expect. Pick the one that fits your situation and the discount works either way.

Getting it done

Ask for the certificate at install, send it to your insurance agent, and revisit it when the policy renews. If you have been monitored for years and never sent one, you have been leaving money on the table. Ask us and we will reissue it.

Questions we get

Does a DIY kit qualify?

The discount follows professional monitoring. Self-monitoring through an app is not the same thing to an insurer.

How much is the discount really worth?

Typically between 5 and 15 percent of your premium, set by your insurer. On Woodlands-sized policies that is real money.

I switched insurers. Now what?

Ask us for a fresh certificate and send it to the new agent.
