How a surveillance install actually works: from walkthrough to live cameras

Every camera project starts with a walkthrough: what you want to catch, every point of entry, and overlapping fields of view to engineer out blind spots wherever the property allows. Then it is about one day for four cameras, and up to two weeks for a fully integrated system.

The walkthrough

Before equipment is ever discussed, we walk the property and ask what you are trying to achieve. Then we map the points of entry, anywhere a person could approach the building, and how fields of view overlap so blind spots get designed out wherever the property allows. If your property backs up to a main road or freeway corridor, that matters: those are the hot spots, and the coverage plan accounts for it.

How many cameras, really

A typical residential install runs four to five cameras. The larger properties around The Woodlands can genuinely need twenty. The number comes from the walkthrough, not from a package on a website, and we would rather spec it right than sell a bundle.

Recording the past, or preventing it

Standard surveillance gives you a record of what happened. If you want to stop it from happening, that is virtual guard: monitored cameras with a live operator watching approaches and able to act while someone is still outside. It is the biggest shift in surveillance in years, and we cover it in its own guide.

Honest timelines

Four cameras is usually a one-day job. Eight or nine runs a couple of days. A full integration, security, surveillance, automation, Wi-Fi, lights, and locks working together, takes one to two weeks. The last step of every install is the same: your app set up, explained, and simple enough that you actually use it.

Questions we get

How many cameras do I need?

Most homes land at four or five. The walkthrough answers it, and overlapping coverage matters more than raw count.

Can you work with cameras I already have?

Where the equipment is worth keeping, yes. The walkthrough sorts keep from replace before we quote anything.

Will I be able to use the app?

That is a requirement, not a hope. We set it up with you and keep it simple enough for the least technical person in the house.
